Come and experience incredible Kenya with our group of volunteers and help develop and improve business management for young mothers who live and work in Kibera, one of the largest slums in the world.

Kenya is today one of the most promising countries in East Africa and has a young population that struggles daily in search of a better future. The Kibera slum, the largest in Africa, in the capital Nairobi, has more than 1 million inhabitants living on an income of less than US$1.00 a day and with a life expectancy of just 45 years._cc781905-5cde-3194 -bb3b-136bad5cf58d_
There is a large group in the Kibera community called the Teen Pregnancy Awarness. Girls who became pregnant at a very young age and therefore had to drop out of school and all their education to take care of their children on their own. They started their professional lives early, even without having graduated from high school and, therefore, they have a lot of difficulty in getting a job, and they see entrepreneurship as the best solution to have a source of income. They are girls between 16 and 30 years of age, most of whom do not have a family structure. They need to be empowered with management tools and skills so that they can have better-structured, longer-lasting businesses that actually provide a substantial monthly income.
VV has been developing this work with these women since 2017, and every year we see their evolution and professionalism. A great leader of this group and who participated in the formation of, is Pauline Juma, was abused by friends, in a trap all organized by them ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKKRsfrVBY4 ) and today is a reference in women's leadership and empowerment. After our WS held in Kibera in 2019, Pauline started a new project #RebirthofaQueen, with the aim of creating a center outside Kibera to welcome, receive, care for and empower women who have been assaulted, abused or experienced violence. home, through mentoring, psychological counseling, workshop to develop their skills and regain self-esteem.
In addition to this group, there is an NGO in Ngong that works with women's empowerment, through entrepreneurship, with women with HIV, these women also need support and training. This already occurs through the VV programs already implemented and which are continued annually. In addition to working with women, the institution also takes care of their children and, therefore, a daycare-school was created to welcome and educate these children, while their mothers will be in action and at work. During our action, we will also continue the antiparasitic program started in 2019, through medical guidance, to reduce verminoses.
In this #SemanaVV we will work on these three projects, developing an exclusive workshop on leadership, communication and entrepreneurship skills.

Without even leaving Nairobi, the capital of the country, you can stroll through Natural Parks with wild boars, lions, giraffes and other wild animals, have fun in super modern malls, go to delicious restaurants and get to know the biggest favela in Africa and one of the biggest in the world. world: Kibera, knowing all the aspects and contrasts of this very interesting country. It is there that the VV Volunteer will meet one of our partner NGOs.In order to generate a positive impact in a universal language, VV has the UN Sustainable Development Goals integrated into their respective strategic pillars and as decision-making.

Saturday to Sunday: 23rd to 31st July 2022
Absolutely ALL must arrive on Saturday 23/07 until 16:00 at the international airport of the city of Nairobi: international airport Jomokenyatta.
Every schedule will be sent and reviewed in VV's online training.
- Saturday: arrival. All must arrive by 4:00 pm at Nairobi City International Airport. The included pickup will be available for those arriving after that time. For those unable to fly in this lane, they can either wait at the airport or pay an extra pickup fee. Dinner at the guesthouse and welcome.
- Sunday: group activity with local team and volunteers. Free day for sightseeing (extra charge, no is included).
- Monday to Saturday: Volunteer activity between Kibera and LPK. Schedule will be made available on site.
- Sunday: return to Brazil. ALL FLIGHTS MUST DEPARTURE AFTER 7pm.
NOTE: As it is a country where demand is unstable, this schedule may vary and we can modify it at any time during the trip, all adapted to local needs.

Mariana Serra (@marianaserraa)
Social entrepreneur, creator and co-founder of Volunteer Vacations (VV), she has a degree in International Relations (ESPM-RJ), was an assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs Luiz Felipe Lampreia contributing to the development of papers focused on geopolitics and foreign trade. She is passionate about travel, has lived in New Zealand and Tahiti where she intensified her involvement with humanitarian actions.
He was working as institutional relations at Andrade Gutierrez when he decided to quit his job and create VV. She has worked as a volunteer since she was young and has worked in social and humanitarian projects in Haiti, India, Thailand, Costa Rica, Jamaica, USA, Brazil, Tanzania, Kenya, Indonesia, Ghana, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Nicaragu, Honduras and worked in a refugee camp in the Middle East, Lebanon and Jordan.
She is co-author of the book Young Entrepreneurs, leaders of Brazil that works, by the publisher Leader. Mariana entered the list of 30 BELOW 30, by the renowned Forbes magazine as one of the most promising young women in Brazil under 30 years old. With six years of experience in Kenya, Mari will manage and organize the activities and run the workshop for NGOs on site.
