São Paulo is the main financial and corporate center in South America. It is the most populous city in Brazil and also the most influential on the global stage. In contrast to this scenario, it is estimated that around 7 million people are hungry (severe food insecurity) and another 15 million do not have enough food (moderate insecurity). The Capão Redondo district is located in the South Zone of São Paulo, close to the Guarapiranga dam and about 23 km from the city center. Within and along the boundaries of Capão Redondo, there are 83 favelas with approximately 29,000 households in total.
With that in mind, we teamed up with the NGO Juntos pelo Capão, which has been operating in the region since 2019, currently impacting around 300 families with the mission of structuring them and the community, making them autonomous, aware of their rights and capable of a dignified insertion within of society. There are currently 15 volunteers working together to make Capão Redondo a place of opportunity for its residents through education, culture, employability and assistance actions.
