  • ABOUT THE DESTINATION

Nepal is a country in Asia that lies along the southern coast of the Himalayan mountain ranges.

It is a landlocked country located between India to the east, south and west and the Tibet Autonomous Region to the north. The capital is Kathmandu. The majority religions in the country are Hinduism and Buddhism.

For a small territory, the country has an unusually diverse terrain, including eight of the 10 highest mountains in the world, including the highest of them, the top of the world, Mount Everest, 8,848mt.

There are approximately 60 ethnic groups that speak 70 different languages in Nepal. But in many schools teaching English is now mandatory. Its population was formed by large-scale migrations of groups from Tibet and Indo-Aryan people from northern India. This has produced a diverse linguistic, ethnic and religious pattern in Nepal.

Landlocked, lacking substantial resources for economic development and hampered by an inadequate transport network and natural disasters, Nepal is one of the least developed nations in the world. The economy is heavily dependent on imports of basic materials. The government's development programs, which are financed by foreign aid, have also failed to respond directly to the needs of the rural population.

Despite the challenges, Nepal is an extremely rich country in culture and spirituality. Its population represents an example of resilience, dedication, hospitality and devotion. From the highest mountains to the Kathmandu Valley, it is a continuous learning experience with the Nepalese people.

It is in this context that VV will work in partnership with Hepl in Action, a member institution of the Lama Gangchen World Peace Foundation, an NGO affiliated to the United Nations with consultative status with ECOSOC. The non-profit organization has been volunteering since 1992.

Help in Actions was founded by TYS Lama Gangchen, a Tibetan Lama who lived in the West for many years and who worked tirelessly to promote a mutual exchange of knowledge, cooperation and humanitarian aid between East and West.

  • SDGs

With a focus on generating positive and universal impact, VV is guided by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. All points are integrated into the strategic pillars of our actions. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a global agenda adopted during the United Nations (UN) Summit in September 2015 on Sustainable Development. It consists of 17 objectives and 169 targets to be achieved by 2030. VV meets all 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined. For programs in Brazil we work:

    - SDG 3: Health and Well-being

    - SDG 4: Quality Education

    - SDG 10: Reduction of inequalities

    - SDG 16: Peace, Justice and Solid Institutions
